Traffic on One

Tonight I sleep alone
Naked and ambiguous
There's a hundred thousand dreams to dream
And just six hours left
But the bedspread keeps me warm
And the shower keeps me justified
My mouth will keep on breathing or
I'll die here by myself

Highway one is full
Of people trying to leave this place
Thank God we're going south tonight
Thank God we're not alone
The belly dancers shake
My conscience from its history
The fairer gender turns my head
And then breaks all my bones

Give me your hand
And I will walk away
And find a sun that doesn't go away
For this one is leaving as the daylight fades
Away, away, away

The street lights dance around
Like harbor seals and chorus girls
I'm going home to someone who
Is nobody like me
I love her like the moon
Conditional and selfishly
But still I'll smile down on her
It's good to be in need

Give me your hand
And I will walk away
And find a sun that doesn't go away
For this one is leaving as the daylight fades
Away, away, away
