at least it isn't me

Seconds swelling
Ridiculed reductionism
Curbs and coattails
a laughable excuse for revolution

and we, swimming in our apathy
casually concede
"at least it isn't me"

all the elements awakened
history, hysterically
sings its sordid sentiments
stand up, take arms
tell these tyrants "no"

for the fortunes have faded
the oppressed omitted
the tawdy, tiring tumult
weep in their weakness
wish,
falter and fail
beneath the breadth of the behemoth

at least it isn't me
the comfort of the cul de sac
the capital gains tax
they smile,
certain everything will end alee
"at least it isn't me"
